The USS Destroyer STURTEVANT (DD-240) and the USS Destroyer Escort STURTEVANT DE-239)
were named in honor of WW1 US aviator Albert Dillon Sturtevant .

Laid down by New York Shipbuilding on November 23 1918.
Launched July 29 1919 and commissioned September 21 1920.
Decommissioned January 30 1931, recommissioned March 9 1932.
Decommissioned November 20 1935, recommissioned September 26 1939.
Fate Struck mine and sank off Key West Fla. April 26 1942.
15 of her crew were lost with the ship and remain on duty.

Recommissioned August 3 1951.
Reclassified DER-239, November 1 1956.
Decommissioned June (?) 1960.
Stricken December 1 1972.
Fate Sold September 20 1973 and broken up for scrap.
